Flagstar also is a leader in fire safety through its Safety First program launched several years ago. Originally built around a program to distribute free smoke alarms, today Safety First emphasizes educating school children on fire safety. The Safety First program was the impetus for Flagstar to help pass a series of bills in the Michigan legislature requiring fire alarms in all dwellings in the state. The bills were signed into law in 2004.
